All of our services are based on a therapeutic model of care. This includes the delivery of a specific sessional service by our therapy practitioners according to the needs of the individual young person. It also means that a great deal of attention is paid to the living environments we create for our young people. Both the physical surroundings, the structures which are provided for daily living and the level of care and consistency delivered by our care teams are vital components of a therapeutic setting.
Essential to the wellbeing and development of the traumatised child is an environment that provides an integrated approach to the care, education and treatment of each young person.
All our services aim to achieve coherence between the delivery of the three components of therapy, learning and living that maximise the effectiveness of everything that we do and contribute to the child’s feeling of safety through the establishment of a consistent set of values and expectations.
Our therapists and psychologists are qualified in a range of approaches and all of our young people have access to ‘talking therapies’ – traditional psychotherapy – or symbolic therapies including art and play therapy. Our managers and residential staff are trained to understand the core principles of Transactional Analysis (TA), Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Counselling and to apply skills and techniques associated with these models. In addition to working directly with our young people, therapists work closely with teams and participate in the delivery of training programmes.
