Mentors offers a range of services from short-term crisis intervention through medium term assessment and transition programmes, to long stay places in our two small family group homes.
Young people often come to Mentors following placement breakdown, or as an exit plan from secure accommodation.
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention - all our staff receive training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) enabling them to assist young people to reflect on their reactions to situations and triggers and learn to manage their behaviour and their emotions more effectively.
- Multi-disciplinary approach - young people who have been referred for assessment will participate in all the daily aspects of life at Mentors, and may be seen by up to three different professionals.
- A tailored package - a carefully tailored package of education, care and therapeutic intervention is created for the young person, dependent on their individual needs.
School attendance is an important part of the daily structure, and young people receive support and encouragement in their class work and homework tasks from their care team. Most of our young people attend our own registered school.
- Appropriate assessment - where a young person has already experienced multiple placement moves, we aim to provide a comprehensive assessment with placement recommendations that will ensure that the next placement is appropriate and sustainable.
Young people suitable for our small family style group homes will be carefully assessed for compatibility with existing residents before agreement is reached to place.
We also provide a range of transitional and outreach packages including mother and baby and preparation for fostering.
