Therapy is an integral part of our care and education programmes. It is a model for living - not just a session which the young person attends once a week.
In addition to undertaking direct work with our young people, therapists engage in a number of activities including team meetings, team training and educational support.
- Therapy Team –our therapists are fully qualified and experienced in their respective fields. Our senior clinician directs the team and is a member of the senior management team at Bryn Melyn as well as delivering direct work and case managing a proportion of our young people. External psychologists contributes to the delivery of our outcome evaluation model.
- Training - all of our staff are trained in Transactional Analysis and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Combined with other models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Play and Art Therapy, therapists and staff work with young people on deep trauma, and on learning new coping skills to help them in their daily lives.
- A consistent approach - within the conventions of client confidentiality, information about the young person's particular fears and needs are conveyed to all of those working with the child creating a consistent and thoughtful approach to each individual.
- Re-parenting model - Bryn Melyn recognises the attachment difficulties which are at the core of much of the disturbance which our young people bring with them. Our unique one:one model of working promotes healthy and trusting relationships with key adults and is therapeutic in its nature.
- Groupwork - young people engage in groupwork as part of their school curriculum, enabling them to test the skills they are learning more effectively with others, negotiating their wants and needs.
- Additional Expertise - whilst most of our work is conducted by in-house specialists, we also have access to a range of external consultants and professionals including:
- Psychologists
- Educational Psychologists
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Forensic Psychiatrists
- Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.
- Accountability - therapists are accountable for their work through both internal and external supervisory arrangements and are responsible for the oversight and administration of our multi-dimensional outcome measurement model.
If you need advice or assistance with a young person, call us today and speak to one of our Directors.
